About me…

Hi,
I’m Mircea Marghidanu and I’m a programmer. Now – as we see in some movies – is the time that everyone stands up and says with a bored voice : – Hi Mircea!
I’m hoping this will be like a PPP meeting (Passion Phor Programming for a lack of a better acronym).

I’ve been programming since I was a kid and I still like it a lot! Originally coming from Romania, I moved to Denmark in 2003 to join IO Interactive where I worked in the R&D department and after that was assimilated by the engine group I moved into the render group where I was the Lead for the last year of my stay there. I worked on titles like Hitman Contracts, Hitman Bloodmoney, Kane & Lynch, I helped a bit with porting Mini-Ninjas on the PS3 and also worked on IO’s new upcoming engine Glacier 2. The platforms I worked on are PC, PS2, PS3 and XBOX. Now I’m working at Unity Technologies and I’m concentrating more on the consoles … yeah I know … what a shocker ! :p

Anyways, all that is in my LinkedIn profile so if you want to see more in detail, then check out my public profile.

Like any other programmer out there I also like to play various instruments (and none of them good) and listen to all sorts of music.
I play a bit of guitar a bit of keyboards and a bit of drums. Here’s my musical trivia:
- Used to play drums in Romania in a start-up thrash metal band with a couple of friends. They continued it and became pretty good
- Used to play lead guitar in Denmark in a metal band called GlaMorD and we even had one concert! \m/
- I have 4 guitars – One spanish with nylon strings, one western, a beautiful Neck Through Ibanez RGT42DX in Black Pearl color and my latest is a Washburn D200 Pro E.
- I’m also playing with electronic music namely trancy / psy-trancy stuff and I enjoy it a lot! I have one of those Access Virus Rack XL synths and a Profire 2626 sound card and I find them really awesome. I use Ableton’s Live for software synths and for the mixing/”mastering” the tracks.

Programming trivia:
- I enjoy bit tricks and smart and simple ways of solving complex problems ( smart not as in “smart pointer”; those I don’t like ).
- I like to know the hardware, and I don’t like to use abstractions before I know what they’re doing behind the scenes.
- I prefer titles like programmer, code monkey, coder, or even dude to titles like software architect, software developer etc.

My fav. quote (…and personal guideline…) is: If you can’t make it good, make it big! If you can’t make it big, make it shiny!
